Verbal analogy

How-to · 3 min

How to crack an analogy by naming the relationship first

  1. Write a short sentence linking the stem pair: 'A ___ is a type of / part of / used to ___ B'

  2. Make the sentence specific (not just 'related to')

  3. Plug each option into the same sentence

  4. Keep the one that fits in the same order; reject options that fit only when reversed

Example

ARCHITECT : BLUEPRINT :: ?

An architect creates a blueprint to plan a building → composer : score (a composer creates a score to plan a performance).
